The last time I talked about solutions to the excuse, “I don’t have enough time to exercise.” Today we continue and move on to another very common excuse I hear all the time.
Today’s excuse is “Exercise is boring.”
When we think of exercise, we think of doing one exercise for at least 30 minutes every time. Some people find that to be boring. They hate to run long distances or don’t have the patience to use the elliptical machine or stationary bike for that long.
Solutions
- Variety is the key. Rotate among several exercises, to keep you interested, such as running, swimming, cycling. Also this it all targets different parts of your body for an even better workout.
- Listen to an audiobook. If you’re at the gym walking on the treadmill, riding the bike, or using the elliptical machines, listen to an audiobook. You’ll be focusing on the story and it’ll make the time go by faster. You’ll be able to accomplish two things at the same time.
- Have an exercise buddy. Find someone to exercise with. I see this all the time. You both can also help encourage each other. You could go for a walk and talk at the same time.
- Find an exercise class. If you’re at the gym, find a class that is interesting to you. They have kickboxing, dancing, and spinning classes to name a few. You’re doing something different and working out with a group of people.
- Watch TV. Now at most gyms, there are TVs for you to watch when you’re on any exercise equipment. If you can afford an exercise machine at home, watching TV and exercising is a perfect combination.
- Find something you enjoy. Remember exercise can be almost any activity. As long as you break a little sweat for at least 30 minutes, it’s considered exercise. You could rollerblade, swim, walk 18 holes of golf, dance, play tennis.

Oh yes, boring exercise is simply….boring. I have a tendency to get that mundane feeling real fast, so I switch it up a lot. I don’t have a gym membership, so the switcheroo requires extra creativity.
Definitely need to change it up. Some people go go running every single day. I see them on the roads all the time. I need to change it to keep me interested and also cause it’s better for the body.
