Continuing on with my series of “Excuses and Solutions to Not Exercising”, today we will focus on the third excuse that people have to not exercise.
Third excuse is “I’m self conscious about how I look.”
- You have to understand if you work out at a gym, there are a lot of people in the same situation exercising there. They are trying to lose weight too. No one looks their best when they’re all sweaty and out of breath in the gym.
- Remember on your long term goals. Think of the time in the future, that you’ll be so happy with how you look.
- Focus on the benefits of exercise. Think about how good you feel after working out.
- Go to the gym during a time when there is less people if you can. Usually after work is the busiest. Sundays mornings at my gym are slow. Find the time best for you.
- If you don’t want to draw any attention to yourself, make sure you’re wearing the proper clothing. Don’t wear short shorts. Don’t wear just a sports bra. Don’t wear anything too bright. Don’t wear a funny looking headband. Just try to blend in.
- If all the above, still feels uncomfortable to you, exercise at home. Get a workout video or buy a piece of exercise equipment.
As you progress, you’ll have more confidence that you won’t be self conscious anymore. If anything, people will definitely start noticing the difference and pay you compliments!
